The Young Child Community
for children as young as 18 months
Our Young Child Community welcomes toddlers beginning their first experiences beyond home. In this warm, home-like environment, children find comfort in rhythm and routine while developing independence, confidence, and care for themselves and others. The classroom is thoughtfully prepared with beautiful, accessible materials that encourage purposeful work, exploration, and discovery.
Each day includes a balanced rhythm of indoor learning, outdoor play, and time in nature. Children engage in real-life activities such as dressing, preparing food, and caring for their space, laying the foundation for self-reliance and focus. With a low 5:1 student-to-teacher ratio, our educators are able to deeply know each child—nurturing language, movement, and social-emotional growth through connection, storytelling, song, and play.
The Young Child Community offers a gentle bridge between home and school, preparing children to enter either our Montessori or Forest School programs with confidence, curiosity, and joy.
We recommend applying to our wait pool during your child’s early infancy, as we only have ten spaces to fill each year. Experience has shown that children are most successful when they begin in the Young Child Community prior to turning two, with 18 months being the ideal age for enrollment. Children in our Young Child Community are guaranteed placement in either our Montessori or Forest Program upon readiness, most often transitioning around their third birthday as they are ready to join the larger class group.
